Tell Me Your Name Again, Dahling…Part 2

in Life in General

“I don’t remember anybody’s name. How do you think the “dahling” thing got started?”  ˜Zsa Zsa Gabor

On Monday, we learned the story behind five etsy shop names.  Once again, starring the EtsyTwitter Team – in alphabetical order, in their own words – read on, Dahlings…

madcandy etsyMADCandy (Marisa) Handmade, designer jewelry, art and more! – Before I opened my etsy shop, I had a freelance product design business called MAD Design. When I decided to open my shop and sell jewelry, I wanted to keep MAD because they are my initials. I also wanted something fun that would portray the whimsical style of my jewelry designs. I decided on candy because jewelry, like candy, keeps you wanting more and more! Thus, MADcandy was born!

maybysfabric etsymaubysfabric (Aubrey) Fabric and Notions Shop – My name is Aubrey, and before my son was born, I had no career direction in life.  Despite a four-year college degree and a large variety of iterests, I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up.  While home with my little man, I realized that my hobby of sewing was my passion and that I wanted to do something with that passion.  It was having my son that helped me realize my desires and work toward my dreams and so Mommy + Aubrey = Mauby’s. (NOTE: maubysfabric shop is temporarily closed until 7/29/2010.  You can sign up to receive an e-mail when the shop re-opens.)

MyLittleChickadeebyAngelEllie etsyMy Little Chickadee by AngelEllie (Ellie) Personalized Save the Date Magnets & Tile Coasters  – Like many people, I had a hard time coming up with a shop name, since it is important, kind of like naming your child!  For some reason, I was constantly remembering how my mom would call me “my little chickadee.”  Also, my girlfriends and I would call each other “chick” when we were in high school.  I love nature and birds, so I decided to go with “My Little Chickadee Creations.”  My mother passed away last Thanksgiving, so I am especially glad that I went with the name I did since it was something special between us.

SewDanish etsySewDanish (Birgitte) Danish Fiber/Textile Art Design Handmade  – I thought long and hard about my shop name before deciding on “SewDanish.” I knew that I was looking for a short name and a name that would give a brief introduction to who I am and what I do. Quite a task! In the end, I chose “SewDanish” which is actually perfect. I love to sew, and being a native Dane living abroad, I’m soooo Danish!

whimsyfish etsywhimsyfish (Max) Whimsy Fish Arts  – I’ve always had a thing for fish, so I naturally wanted to include that in my name. When I was a little girl, I wanted to grow up to be an ichthyologist (I just had to Google that for spelling!). After kicking around several ideas and getting nowhere, I saw an article in a magazine about something whimsical, and it just came to me!

Thanks so much for doing this! I wish my story was more exciting, like a talking flounder told me to use that name, but so it goes. By the way, my preferred street name is Max. Cheers!

This is brilliant! I thought I was the only one struggling to find the perfect name :-) This is so fun to read. Thank you for putting this post together. I’m already looking forward to the next one.
