ARTIST: SUSAN NICHOLSÂ Â Â
By day from August-June, she is Miss Nichols, teacher to 100+ sixth grade students at a public middle school.  Susan also teaches youngsters how to knit and crochet as part of her after-school Arts & Crafts Club. She is quite appreciative of her mother, aunt and grandmother, as it took all their efforts to teach this frustrated lefthander how to knit! By night and summers, she’s a busy artist who manages to combine her love for knitting, crocheting and animals.
Susan’s main love is creating super soft, hand knit scarves out of fancy, boutique yarns. She also crochets handy items, such as water bottle carriers and nesting bowls. These items are featured in SusanNeedlehands, a completely nonprofit boutique. According to Susan, “Any money I make from sales of items in my shop above the cost required to make the item will be donated to charity.”
Currently Susan is supporting the Etsy for Animals Team Charity of the Month, where the current recipient is Help Animals India. Â Susan loves animals and has two rescue cats of her own, so joining Etsy for Animals was a simple way to be able to donate to charities that help animals. Â
Susan would also like to expand the organizations with which she works to with so her etsy customers could choose from a list of charities.
You can read about The Birth of Susan Needlehands in her own words and also follow her on twitter and facebook.
